Our sign animoto

Mrs McA here - sorry , I updated this for Julian and Corban H and may have lost their words. This is us this morning looking at he different signs we made and using our criteria(spelling, information, layout, presentation) making our different recommendations about the signs and which ones might be best to be made into real signs. I heard someone say "this is hard11" and isn't it when you have to choose one over another. Well done to room 11 - they were great in the way they handled this activity and the careful considerations they gave to each sign.

My perfect room…

My perfect room would be in heaven J

When the neighbors have a party, I can hear pop music blaring into my ears from my bed. When my little sister has a friend over, she takes them into our room and they mess up all my stuff, eat all my chocolate, play on my bed and won’t leave me alone. When I wake up in the morning, I see the boring shade of darkish yellow on my walls, which are plastered with magazine posters and the brownish-bluishness of my dull, bumpy carpet.

If I had a room makeover I would extend it majorly and I would have the carpet a darkish blue and it would be so soft and deep that your feet would sink right into it. I would move Roxy out of my room and have my boring walls painted turquoise, with royal blue and white swirls.

I would have a hand scan on my door so my sisters can’t just burst in. I’d have a button I could press to make the walls soundproof so I could actually get some sleep. I’d also have an enormous bookshelf filled with the best ever books. The bookshelf would be surrounded with beanbags (which would be covered with a light and dark blue scaly pattern) so I could relax while reading.

There would be an intercom by my door and one by my bed so I could talk to people that wanted to come in or had a message for me. My closet would have a keyboard on so I could type in what kind of clothes I’d like and they’d appear in my closet and it would have the same pattern as on the beanbags (and so would my light cover). I’d have two trapdoors, one for me to just have as an R&R area and the other would be a laundry chute.

I’d have French doors leading to a deck and there would be a fenced off animal play/ relaxing area for my pets (with half inside and half on my deck). My bed would have the slide put back on and there’d be a smallish hole with trampoline material on so I could literally ‘Jump into Bed’. I’d also have a smallish TV (with sky) and it would have the same scaly pattern on (same with my duvet and pillow).

And that’s how I’d have my room. By K8y. QK J

My friends By Janelle

My car powerpoint

Here's my powerpoint, unfortunately you won't be able to use the action buttons. You can see me personally if you want to view the original power point. Thanks to my Dad and Cody for their help. Please leave me a copy and if you were a room 11 p3erson who heard me present my power point , could you please give me a comment about what I did well.

Corban H Photos

Here are some Photos from Corban's powerpoint

Cody's Dad

This is some pretty nice writing I found in Cody's writing book. ( So I thought I would publish it!!) Mrs McA

My dad is made of money(not really). When you do as your told my dad will buy you something.

My dad has got a great sense of humour like once when he told a really really funny joke I just about wet my pants!

My dad is really really really lovable. When you need a hug, my dad is the man to see. he'll pick you up and squeeze you until you scream!!

Here's another piece of writing I found-

I would call him a bundle of joy and happiness, you might call him the same.

He has money and friends, but not fortune and fame. When it comes to sports he is kinda lazy, but when he's soft he likes smelling the daisies.

He always calls me lad, he's alright, my Dad!

Corban C's explanation of why we made our survey monkey surveys.

Why we made a survey?

We made a survey because we wanted to know if our school has and wears a pair of safety glasses while mowing the lawns(and other activities like pruning). Some people went further and asked if they had ever had anything fling up into their eyes.

In my group I had Julian and Cody. We asked, do you have safety glasses? Do you wear them when you are mowing the lawns? Do you mow the lawns? and have you ever had something fling up into your eyes?

Our surveys were a chart to let us know if people around the school wear safety glasses while mowing the lawns and if they had something fling into their eyes.

My survey showed that 22 people own safety glasses. Five people sometimes wear them. My group had a confusing result because the people who don't own safety glasses still filled in that question.

What we are thinking of doing is making coupons/vouchers so the safety glasses are cheaper which might mean people want to buy them and wear them.

Advertisement sharing

Hi room 11
I am practising using voice thread to upload an ad made by my class last year as an example for you. We are going to be making advertisements to encourage lawnmowerers to wear safety glasses ad maybe gardeners??

What do you think of this? Leave us a comment room 11ers !! and others. You might recognise some of the actors!!!

Results of our surveys - safety glasses

168 people replied to the survey. ( Only people who mow the lawns were asked to fill out the survey)
94 people said they own them.
31 people wear them sometimes.
17 people always wear safety glasses

What are your thoughts?
What if people wear just their normal glasses? Is this safe? Are normal glasses safe - do they protect the eyes? Do they shatter if hit?
What about sunglasses?

Centre of the Earth - narrated by Regan Gifford

Living in the Centre of the Earth for 3 days narrated by Regan Gifford 19.10.12
My heart was pounding hard. My life was about to change forever.  I was going to do something that I know nobody had done before.  I am going to live under…
“REGAN……?”
“What Mum?”  I cried?
“It’s time to goooo”, my Mum shouted.
“Ok Mum”. As we went in the car, my stomach was turning and turning. I knew that this was quite a big risk. I’d probably come back with some bruises and scars.  But… Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you…I’m having a……  EEEERRRRKK. The car took a sudden stop in the middle of nowhere. There was a parade going on.
“This is nuts” I said to my Mum.  She said you have to respect the parades we were there for hours and hours. I thought it would go on for days but Mum said I was being ridiculous. Oh yeah while we are stuck here, I will tell you what I am going to do.  GRRRRR, RRRRR, the motor started up and took off a gear. Sorry about that.  Now I can tell you… EEERRRK. The car stopped again. There was only one float left in the parade. I scowled at Mum.  We only had one day to drive to the other side of the island to catch a boat, the ferry.
As I am gunna be on here for a couple of weeks and months I’d better tell you now. I looked around, I hope Mum is not here. I looked out the door into the corridor. NowI am going to travel to the Centre of the Earth for a paintball fight!  Woo!  I was glad to get that out.  Then the boat came to a sudden stop.  The captain came into my room, dragged me out by the ear and chucked me overboard. I wasn’t very happy, then my Mum saw and chucked him overboard. Then some of the crewmen saw and shoved my Mum overboard.  My brother, little Frankie was left on the boat all alone travelling.  I wanted to go and I had no idea why I was chucked off the boat.  My two year old sister Louise, was hanging out the window by her feet caught on a loose nail . Her face suddenly turned green. As we were floating under her, she puked. All over us!  Luckily we are in a really big bath!
But then, some fins came out of the water and were circling us. These were no ducky fins!  We were surrounded by sharks.   And, my Mum said she loves me. Well, I already knew that. Well, I think I did. Now I think about it she didn’t show it very well.  And my baby sister fell in the water. The sharks swam over to her and surrounded her. So we managed to call out for help. Nobody listened, of course. My baby sister was stuck. We got caught in a rip and we were floating away from my baby sister who was surrounded by sharks.  We never saw her again. We could hear the faint cry of her as we drifted away. Further and further until the boat wasn’t even in sight. And the boat was two times as big as the Titanic.
I found civilisation on an island that we drifted up to. Well, I guess you could call it civilisation.  We got invited to a dinner meal but we were the dinner!  Some tribal people called The Scalps had taken us prisoner. My Mum was trying to make a joke out of it and my Mum was going a bit coo-coo.  And she said for a joke “hey you guys name is the same as somebodies scalp, and then she pointed to a little clothesline hanging with scalps from people. So I am guessing they cut peoples heads off and take the scalps.
We were hanging upside down being carried over bridges. At night, we heard the cry of coyotes, wolves, bears and all sorts of other things. Then, we got hanged over a fireplace.  They left us to go find the firewood.   They didn’t come back. And then a bear spotted us and well, you can guess, he tried to eat us. But stupidly enough, he was nibbling my hands and that meant he was nibbling off the rope. I ended up falling down a really big cliff. And then, I landed in a tree. And then fell through the tree.  I find out I was on the right island to go travelling.  Then I found two people who look more civilised than me and the island folk we had met. I said hello. They said hello back. I walked up to them and then I got knocked out 'cos some of them punched me in the face. Cos I had dirt and leaves and they thought I was a tribal person.  I ended up being put in a prison in London.  Far, far away from where I once wanted to go. I couldn’t find any of my family, my Dad was in India selling carpet.  Two of my family I assumed were dead. So I had a little cry.
Then I thought maybe I can bribe one of the guards to get out. It looked easy enough on TV to bribe a guard.  I tried bribing one of the guards, next minute I ended up with a blood nose. I was sad and alone in my cell.  I ended up being bailed out by my little brother Frankie.  Geez, my half-brother Frankie, was only 3 but he’d becomes a billionaire!  He helped me get to the island called Nazoofah where the hatch was.  As I was climbing into the volcano hatch that went down the Centre of the Earth, a paintball gun was chucked down at me.  I looked at Frankie strangely and he gave me a glare so I ran.
Then Frankley cried  “Go on, go shoot some people” as I was running away.
They were closing over the hatch.  So I was stuck under there for 3 days trying to survive. I went back to the hatch it was open, would this be my chance to get out. I grabbed the rungs.  Then the hatch was closed and locked. Then I heard a roll call of all of the peoples names that had gone under. I heard my name and then I heard a yes. So that confused me. So I was stuck under the earth.  I ended up walking into a Big Man who was working in the mines. He took me up to the surface and ended up suing my half-brother Frankie and that was my weekend.

Old Glasses given new life!

What a great thing to do - any old glasses lying around - the highlighted words can also be found on spellingcity.com - Extension eye article
Old glasses given new life
JOHN ANTHONY
Last updated 05:00 10/10/2012
NZ CLEAR VISION: Specsavers New Plymouth administrator Jillian Hill with some of the donated spectacles that will be sent to Pacific Islanders living in remote areas who can’t access or afford eye care.
Rejected spectacles are being shipped overseas to help poor-sighted Pacific Island villagers see.
Specsavers New Plymouth is asking Taranaki people to dig out old, unused glasses and donate them to visually impaired people in developing countries.
Specsavers will be accepting old glasses until October 31 before donating them to Pakeke Lions Club who will clean, label and package the glasses.
The specs are then given to Volunteer Ophthalmic Services Overseas (VOSO) who match the glasses to people living in isolated Pacific Island communities.
VOSO is made up of teams of eye surgeons, optometrists and eye care workers.
So far the project had provided more than 80,000 pairs of glasses valued at $15 million to Pacific Islanders.
Specsavers New Plymouth administrator Jillian Hill said the store had been collecting old glasses for about 15 years and usually received about 10 a week.
"Sometimes we can't use them because they're completely munted," Mrs Hill said.
The latest drive by Specsavers is to renew interest in the campaign, she said.
Most of the time the glasses scrubbed up OK and a pretty close eye sight match could be found.
"They can give someone else quality of life."
With most New Zealanders changing their glasses once every two years there were plenty of spares lying around, she said.
Specsavers New Plymouth owner Alison Cole said eye care in remote Pacific Island areas could be limited due to a shortage of clinics and trained optometrists.

This morning at 9.40 me, Regan and Mr Riati went into the Cruize FM studio to record an ad for the Frankley school carnival. First, we went into the room with the mixing desk and listened to last year's ad. Then we came up with a script for the ad and Regan drew some pictures for his script. Next, we went into the 'vocal booth' and got our headphones on and rehearsed. After a few tries, we recorded it perfectly and so we went back into the other room and listented to our ad and then we went back to school.

The ad is on four times a day so tune into cruize FM now!!!!!

My exciting weekend!

On Saturday the 27 of October my family and I went down to Opanake for dads get together work thing where everyone that goes to dads work has fun at this mans farm, we played this game where you have to pretend there are birds flying in the sky. Theres this machine and it throws disks into the air and you have to SHOOT them with a gun and you have a partner to try and beat, and see how much disks you can smash. And how many you smash is how many points you get for your team.

(by the way I am talking REAL guns!)

And I had a little go with my sister but me and Gillian shot the disks,[ well tried to shoot the disks] with PAINT BALL GUNS!
That was fun.

But Gillian got to shoot against another dude with a GUN!
Then after we had finished with the shooting game we were packing up and the man that helped me and Gillian with the guns to get them ready for us and the paint ball guns (that I used) the man asked me if I wanted a go with a real gun :)

And I said yes.
So he said to everyone to step back. Then I had a go and hurt my shoulder (like mum when she had a turn)

So that wasn't good :(  but it was still fun.

Then we moved onto archery and Daddy got 8 points for his team and mummy got 13 for her team and Gillian got 5 points for her team and I got 7 points (and I didn't really belong to a team though because I didn't have lots of goes at everything because I was scared so I wasn't in a real team and I was also just having a go at everthing.

Overall we had a FANTASTIC time! :)

Scream!!!

Adrenalin rushed through my bones as I felt myself zoom upwards. Why was I doing this?

I suddenly felt an abrupt STOP. It was time. My instructor made sure all my gear was fastened properly.

I watched as fate opened up before me. I was ready. Well at least I hoped I was. I closed my eyes and jumped.

When I opened my eyes, I saw the world around me rushing downwards as if fate was trying to run away from its owner. As I screamed, I wondered if I was dreaming. I felt amazing. So amazing that I almost forgot to pull my parachute down, this was essential.

When I landed, everyone was cheering. I had achieved what I thought I could never achieve.

Although it didn't last very long, this had been the most amazing experience in my entire life; and I’ll never forget it.

Mr Girling-Butcher Visits - Janelle

Explanation of how the Eye works - Regan

The eye works just like a camera.  It lets light in and blocks some out and bends it into a shape of a picture. Firstly the little back dot in the middle of your eyes is called your pupil. It is not a dot it’s a hole. It lets light in and out which creates a picture.  But I’ll explain that later.

The other part, around the pupil is called the iris.  But that is a muscle. But that is only one of the muscles that you can see.   Your eye has a watery cover over it and every time you blink it lets another drop of oil which is the liquid stuff if you touch your eye its wet. It puts the oil over your eye which stops you from say your eye drying out.

Divisibilty Rules

Hi all here they are, including the divisibility rule for 7 and for 8. Google is my friend. Mrs McA

Divisibility Math Tricks to Learn the Facts (Divisibility)  Some tricks are listed here.

Dividing by 2 All even numbers are divisible by 2. E.g., all numbers ending in 0,2,4,6 or 8.

Dividing by 3 Add up all the digits in the number. Find out what the sum is. If the sum is divisible by 3, so is the number For example: 12123 (1+2+1+2+3=9) 9 is divisible by 3, therefore 12123 is too! Dividing by 4 Are the last two digits in your number divisible by 4? If so, the number is too! For example: 358912 ends in 12 which is divisible by 4, thus so is 358912.

Dividing by 5 Numbers ending in a 5 or a 0 are always divisible by 5.

Dividing by 6 If the Number is divisible by 2 and 3 it is divisible by 6 also.

Dividing by 7 (2 Tests) Take the last digit in a number. Double and subtract the last digit in your number from the rest of the digits. Repeat the process for larger numbers. Example: 357 (Double the 7 to get 14. Subtract 14 from 35 to get 21 which is divisible by 7 and we can now say that 357 is divisible by 7.

NEXT TEST Take the number and multiply each digit beginning on the right hand side (ones) by 1, 3, 2, 6, 4, 5. Repeat this sequence as necessary Add the products. If the sum is divisible by 7 - so is your number. Example: Is 2016 divisible by 7? 6(1) + 1(3) + 0(2) + 2(6) = 21 21 is divisible by 7 and we can now say that 2016 is also divisible by 7.

Dividing by 8 This one's not as easy, if the last 3 digits are divisible by 8, so is the entire number. Example: 6008 - The last 3 digits are divisible by 8, therefore, so is 6008.

Dividing by 9 Almost the same rule and dividing by 3. Add up all the digits in the number. Find out what the sum is. If the sum is divisible by 9, so is the number. For example: 43785 (4+3+7+8+5=27) 27 is divisible by 9, therefore 43785 is too!

Dividing by 10 If the number ends in a 0, it is divisible by 10.

Similies - try some of these

dads writing - Sam

When my dad feels lonely he will give us a friendly dead leg. It hurts but we will still be laughing. he always has a trick that will make us laugh.

He loves to be outside with us and Penny [Penny is dad's girlfriend] and her boys. If you see him outside he will be skiing, kayaking, tramping or on one of his adventures. Or he'll be inside watching a movie and cuddling with us.

the waves - Tuscany

BOOM went the waves at the port."I feel like one of those storm chasing people" I said to mum.

The waves were bigger than a class-room standing up straight and when we were going to the car I got sprayed by a wave.

When we were in the car a HUGE wave went over the rocks and on to the car, It FREAKED me out!

my weekend- Cameron

My weekend

In the weekend I worked and worked and worked till I ran out of lives.  I’m on my 9th one already. It’s not far till yesterday.

We made a new window (just one for our day room).  We had old blinds to cut up to do it. It took 1 day to do it. It was very complex to make it (1 DAY, I TELL YOU ONE DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!) any hooo back to it.

At 1:07 we had to go to my dad’s work for an emergency. The lock into the back of the TSB show place wouldn’t work like it should. When we got back mum, nana and Hannah had come home for dinner (they got back before we did) we had pasta. I had it with cheese and bacon.
(This was real ok). We watched THE BLOCK NZ(on a 60inch TV). Thanks for reading.

Go to www.cameronsblog  for the time of your life. just kidding
